Charging and pack balancing for lithium-ion batteries in one 11kg portable unit.
Powered by a single phase 100/240V AC supply, the STN portable charger can intelligently charge up lithium-ion battery packs to any set charge level, or balance a battery into an existing system.
In-built safety
Charging is BMS controlled via CAN and interlock interface to the chosen battery pack. Compatible with CANOpen and J1939 as standard, the charger protocols can be expanded on request.
The charger contains dual contactor control and fusing to ensure the safety of the battery charging process.
Simplified charging control
Charging is controlled via ‘charge dongles’. These are small plugs that command a set charge percentage (e.g 100%, 50% SoC).
The user simply inserts the required charge dongle into the left side of the unit and presses the green button to initiate charging.

System balancing
The unit can balance a battery pack with another battery pack, or existing system to the same voltage.
The system (or a battery pack) is plugged into the ‘system reference’ on the left side of the unit, and the battery to be charged/balanced is plugged into the right side (battery connection).

The LCD will show both the target charge voltage of the system and the battery voltage. When the process is started with the green button, the battery pack will be charged until the voltages match. The charger implements an advanced control algorithm to ensure the voltages are exactly matched.

Full operation guide
Charge dongles are available for the chosen battery type in a range of options to suit various target voltage levels.
Charge dongles are used to simplify the charging process, using physical plugs rather than settings.
The charger operates in two modes.
Mode 1: Automatic battery pack charging function
- In pack charging mode, an ‘input reference plug’ is connected to the ‘System DC input’. The system will display the target charge voltage.
- Connect power cables from the battery to charge to ‘Battery DC input’.
- Connect BMS communication cables from the battery to the ‘Battery BMS input’.
- Press the green ‘Start’ button. To abort the cycle, press and hold the red button.
- The system will now charge the battery to the target charge voltage.
Mode 2: Automatic battery pack balancing function
- In pack balancing mode, a battery system, or battery pack is connected to the ‘System DC input’.
- The system will display the system voltage.
- Connect power cables from the battery to charge to ‘Battery DC input’.
- Connect BMS communication cables from the battery to the ‘Battery BMS input’.
- Press the green ‘Start’ button. To abort the cycle, press and hold the red button.
- The system will now charge the battery to match the ‘System DC input’.
- When the voltage is matched, the charger will change to ‘Balance mode’.
- When balancing is complete, the system will display ‘Finished’.
